WHAT IS THE SARASOTA COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION?

The Sarasota County Bar Association is a voluntary organization of lawyers and judges who practice law and administer our judicial system in Sarasota County.

The SCBA has existed as an association since 1926 and was incorporated on January 20, 1960. The mission of the Association is to advance professionalism, promote practice development, encourage public service, foster fellowship and support access to legal services for all.

The vast majority of attorneys who practice in Sarasota County and all of our circuit and county court judges are members of the SCBA.

The affairs of the SCBA are managed by its officers and Board of Directors with the assistance of a full time Executive Director. To fulfill goals enunciated in its mission statement and articles of incorporation, the SCBA administers a variety of programs, committees, sections and social functions on behalf of its members.

The SCBA also maintains sections for specialty areas of practice. These encourage members in specific practice specialties to share ideas and foster professionalism. The current practice sections include Family Law, Estate Planning and Probate, Real Property, Labor and Employment, Circuit Civil and Solo Small Firms.

The Young Lawyers Division is comprised of all members of the SCBA under age 36 or who have practiced less than five (5) years. The YLD is managed by its officers and Board of Directors. Its purpose is to assist young lawyers in their integration into the legal profession while stimulating their interest in the activities of the Bar Association. The section also undertakes civic and educational programs to serve the community and further understanding of the legal profession.
