COVID-19: SCBA Updates and Resources

Wednesday, April 8, 2020

As information surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to evolve, the Sarasota County Bar Association (SCBA) is committed to keeping you informed as new information is released daily.

Statement from SCBA President Drew Clayton - 3.14.20

In light of the rapidly-evolving coronavirus pandemic and safety concerns expressed by our fellow bar members and those who have been invited to speak at various SCBA events, such as section meetings, the SCBA will be suspending all in-person meetings from now until May 1.  Steps are being taken to arrange for live streaming of meetings during the interim, if possible.  If live streaming is not possible, meetings will be rescheduled wherever and whenever possible.  We will continue to monitor this situation and will decide in early April whether or not SCBA events scheduled for the month of May will go forward as planned.

The SCBA is also taking steps to facilitate remote work capabilities for executive director Holly Lipps and her assistant, Laura Winn.  Please bear with us as we all acclimate to this situation.  The SCBA will continue to advise the membership of other developments as they occur.  In the interim, we wish you all good health and look forward to getting past this current challenge.

Event Cancellations

Please be advised that the SCBA will adhere to current CDC recommendations and will not be hosting in-person meetings and events for the next eight weeks. Steps are being taken to arrange for live streaming of section meetings during the interim, if possible. If live streaming is not possible, meetings will be rescheduled.

The SCBA office will continue daily operations, but will not be open for walk-in traffic and will work remotely as deemed necessary. We continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and will make ongoing assessments and consider ways to further support our members and the legal community as needs unfold. If you have an idea you would like to share related to this effort, please contact President Drew Clayton or Executive Director Holly Lipps.
